The RSPB Radipole Lake is a truly unique wildlife reserve in Weymouth and one that plays a very important role in the ecosystem of the region. It is a great place for visitors to come and see and is open throughout the year.
The sizable reedbed, open water, flood meadows and bushes attract a great deal of different birds such as bearded tits and Cetti’s warblers which can both be seen throughout the year.
During the summer months you can also spot sedge, reed and grasshopper warblers. The autumn season sees a wide variety of migrating birds stopping while in the winter months you might get the chance to see pochard, bitterns and tufted ducks.
There’s an interesting visitor centre that offers superb views across the reserve as well as offering guided walks and talks. The shop stocks books, bird feeders, binoculars and everything else that a keen ornithologist could want.
Whatever the time of year, there is easy access to the reserve along firm paths that are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. This is a great place to enjoy a family day out and enjoy the many beautiful birds that can be found here.
